Ολυμπισμός και Ανθρώπινα Δικαιώματα: από το 1894 μέχρι σήμερα

Αυτό το άρθρο έχει ως στόχο της διερεύνηση της εξέλιξης των συζητήσεων γύρω από τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα στο πλαίσιο των μεγάλων αθλητικών γεγονότων, ιδιαίτερα των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων. Η παρούσα εργασία αναλύει αρχικά, το πώς ο ιδρυτής των σύγχρονων Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων συνέλαβε τις Ολυμπιακές αξίες, ποιες δυτικο-κεντρικές επιρροές υπονόμευσαν την «οικουμενικότητα» της Ολυμπιακής φιλοσοφίας και πώς αυτή επηρέασε την προστασία και προώθηση των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων, καθώς και τυχόν προκλήσεις ή περιορισμούς που αντιμετωπίστηκαν στην πράξη. Στη συνέχεια επικεντρώνεται στην ανάλυση των στοιχείων του «αθλητικού ξεπλύματος» (sportswashing) και της ήπιας ισχύος στο πολυδιάστατο πλαίσιο του αθλητισμού, όπου η εξουσία, το προνόμιο, η πολιτική και η θέση (ανα)παράγονται. Επιπλέον, εξετάζει τον πιθανό αντίκτυπο των μεταρρυθμίσεων κατά της διαφθοράς στις αθλητικές διοργανώσεις μεγατόνων στη δημιουργία μιας διαρκούς κληρονομιάς ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων. Τέλος, το άρθρο αξιολογεί κριτικά τον ρόλο των ενδιαφερομένων μερών, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των κυβερνήσεων, των αθλητικών διοικητικών σωμάτων και των μη κυβερνητικών οργανώσεων, στην προώθηση βιώσιμων μεταρρυθμίσεων κατά της διαφθοράς στο πλαίσιο μεγάλων αθλητικών γεγονότων.
