Περίληψη

Οι εφαρμογές των επιταχυνσιομέτρων στην έρευνα στο χώρο της Υγείας έχουν εξελιχθεί σημαντικά τα τελευταία χρόνια, περνώντας από την απλή καταγραφή της φυσικής δραστηριότητας (ΦΔ) σε πολυδιάστατα εργαλεία παρακολούθησης της υγείας και διαχείρισης ασθενειών. Η παρούσα ανασκόπηση παρουσιάζει τέσσερις βασικές εφαρμογές των επιταχυνσιομέτρων στο χώρο της υγείας, με ενδεικτικά παραδείγματα από τη σύγχρονη επιστημονική βιβλιογραφία: Α) αξιολόγηση και παρακολούθηση των επιπέδων ΦΔ, Β) κατανόηση των σχέσεων της ΦΔ με δείκτες υγείας, Γ) σχεδιασμός και αξιολόγηση παρεμβάσεων, Δ) διαχείριση παθήσεων. Στον τομέα της παρακολούθησης και αξιολόγησης, τα επιταχυνσιόμετρα έχουν προσφέρει τη βάση για αντικειμενική, μεγάλης κλίμακας καταγραφή μοτίβων ΦΔ. Η κατανόηση των σχέσεων με δείκτες υγείας έχει αναδιαμορφωθεί μέσα από μεγάλες επιδημιολογικές μελέτες. Η αξιολόγηση παρεμβάσεων έχει ωφεληθεί από τη χρήση αντικειμενικών μετρήσεων αποτελέσματος, που επιτρέπουν λεπτομερή κατανόηση των μηχανισμών αλλαγής συμπεριφοράς, ενώ αποτελούν και εργαλείο παρακίνησης. Ακόμα, οι εφαρμογές στη διαχείριση παθήσεων καταδεικνύουν την κλινική χρησιμότητα της συνεχούς παρακολούθησης της ΦΔ για εξατομικευμένη φροντίδα και έγκαιρη ανίχνευση μεταβολών στην υγεία. Συζητώνται, τέλος, πεδία για μελλοντική έρευνα.
