INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION: Α RARE COMPLICATION OF CHRONIC ANTICOACULANT THERAPY
Abstract
Hemorrhage after long-term anticoagulant therapy is manifected ion order of decreasing frequency as hematouria, bleeding gums, epistaxis, ecchymoses, hematemesis and melena. It is less commonly manifected from other organs (brain, epidurla space etc) and rarely as hemorrhage into the mesentery and the bowell wall being the cause of intestinal obstruction. A 60 years-old man on chronic anticoagulant therapy after aortic valve replacement with acute abdomen-intestinal obstruction is reported. Surgical exploration revealed the presence of hemoperitoneum and hematoma into the mesentery and the wall of jejunal segment. The patient underwent partial resection of the diseased bowel segment and jejuno-jenunal anastomosis. He had an uneventful recovery and was succesfully reestablished on anticoagulant therapy.References
