EFFECT OF LARGE BOWEL DISTENTION ΟΝ GASTRIC ACID AND GASTRIN SECRETION
Abstract
This study concerns the changes of gastric acid and gastrin secretion after large bowel distention. The aim of the study was to verify the existence of inhibitory reflexes arising from large bowel effecting gastric acid and gastrin secretion. The results of the study were as follows: 1. It has been found a very significant (Ρ<0,001) decrease of gastric acidity, besal outpout and maximal gastric output after the distention of large bowel. 2. It has been found also a very significant (Ρ<0,001) decrease in gastrin release after the distention. 3. The existence of inhibitory reflexes based on large bowel regulating gastric acid and gastrin secretion is possible. 4. Large bowel participates in the regulation of gastric secretion.References
