TREATMENT ΙΝ METASTATIC DISEASE OF ΤΗΕ LIVER
Abstract
Operative treatment in metastatic disease of the liver has been increased in recent years. Ιn our department we studied 22 cases with metastatic disease of the liver. Ιn the period 1983 - 1987 we encountered 10 cases, and 12 cases in the period 1988 - 1989. The patients were between men and women was 1 :3 (5 men and 17 women). Ιn 8 cases the primary disease was focused in the pancreas, in 7 in the large bowel, in 3 in the stomach, in 3 in the ovaries and in 1 in the thyroid. 4 out of 10 cases died in the clinic and the rest 6 were transferred in special centres for further treatment. Ιn 12 cases of the last two years we applied 3 catheters with ΤΙTACATH valve in the hepatic artery and 3 intraperitoneal catheters. Ιn one interesting case ASPERGILLUS FLAVUS was cultured in pus of the incision of the operation. 18 biopsies were done, 1 typical left hepatectomy and a tumour of 2.700 gr was excised (malignant haemopericytoma) of the right lobe of the liver. The tumour pressed the inferior vena cava and there was excessive ascitis. Ιn this paper we discuss the therapeutic problems of the metastatic disease of the liver.References
