Abstract

Ιn the present study we venture a presentation of a series of 17 patients considered for benign strictures of extrahepatic bile ducts, that were operatively managed at the 1st Surgical Department. The causes rendered rensponsible for the forementioned damage were attributed to descending Gallstones in 4 subjects a centrally located Echinococcal cyst in one patient and surgical traumas in 12 cases. Extensive reference is made on the diagnostic approach, the types of operations eventually sellected and subsequent results. Concluding, the undoubtedly unforgiving problem of benign biliary strictures is being reviewed, with respect to all recent literature, placing particular emphasis on the iatrogenic pathogenicity of the lesions in the majority of cases.
