SPHINCTEROPLASTY ΟΝ BENIGH DISEASES OF BILIARY TRACT
Abstract
During 1980-89, 120 sphincteroplasties were performed on a total of 1752 operations for benign diseases of biliary tract (6,85%). The indications for sphincteroplasty were choledocholithiasis in 78 patients (65%), impact stone at the lower and of common bile duct in 8 patients (6,6%), stenosis of Oddi' s sphincter in 8 patients (6,6%), chronic or reccurent pancreatitis in 16 patients (13%), remaining stone in common bile duct in 4 patients (3,3%) duodenal diverticula in 2 patients (1,7%) stenosis after choledochoduodenum anastomisis in 2 patients (1,7%), papilloma of (papilla) ampulla of Vater in 1 patient (0,83%), rupture of ecinoccocal hydatic cyst biliary tract in 1 patient (0,83%). The duration of postoperative treatment was 2-34 days). Direct postoperative complications showed 17 patients ( 14%). Two patients died earlyt postoperatively (postoperative pancreatitis and upper gastrointerstinal bleeding were the main reasons). We think that sphincteroplasty is a safe procedure, although postoperative pancreatitis is a serious complication, the early and late results of this operative are considered satisfactory.References
