PRIMARY CANCER OF ΤΗΕ GALLBLADDER
Abstract
Primary cancer of the gallbladder is the most common malignancy of the biliarysystem (70% ). It consists 1% of all the neoplasms and 3% of the neoplasms of the GI tract . The prognosis is poor. Properative diagnosis is rare. Our results showed that cholecystography and i.v. cholangiography offer little in preoperative diagnosis compared to ECHO and CT scan, which are more useful in diagnosis of this disease. During the years 1986-1989 in the Surgical Clinic of the 2nd General IKA Hospital "PANAGIA", a total of 655 patients were operated cholecystopathy, 478 women (73,8%) βnd 171 men (22,2%) of which 10 primary cancers of the gall bladder (1,5%). Of these 7 were women and 3 men. The ages ranged from 34 to 82 yrs. (mean 58yrs). Right subcostal pain, nausea and vomitting were the most common findings. 4 patients showed with icterus (40%). Ιn 7 patients biliary stones were present. 3 patients were inoperable. Finally, we stress the short survival, regardless of the stage and diagnosis and surgical technique.References
