BILIARY SURGERY ΟΝ OVERAGED PATIENTS
Abstract
During the years 1980-1989, 1819 operations on biliary tract have been performed in the 2nd Surgical Prop. Dep. Of these patients 118 had an age >75 years, of whom 11 /118 were operated on urgently. Complication during the immediate postoperative period appeared on 21 /118 pts while later complication (cholangitis) appeared on 2 pts. We had 5 postoperative deaths mostly of cardiopulmonary diseases. We conclude that, with a correct preoperative preparation and an intensive postoperative management, the indicated operations on diliary tract can performed safely with a low mortality rate but a relative high morbidity rate.References
