ΤΗΕ EFFECT OF PACEMAKERS ΟΝ SERUM'S IMMUNO-GLOBULING lgA, lgG AND lgM
Abstract
The effect of pacemaker on the lavels of serum's lgΑ, lgG, lgΜ, was studied in a group of 22 patients, four without (group Α) and 18 with preexistent dental alloy and permanent or temporary pacemaker (group Β). The immonoglobulins levels were determined before and during the 7th, 20th, 30th day after the pacemaker implantation. An increase (p>0,1) in the mean levels of lgΑ, lgG, lgΜ in the group Α was observed in all measurements after pacemaker implantation. On the contrary, in group Β three different changes were detected: a) a decrease in the mean values of immunoglobulins through out the study (p>0,1) in 7 patients, b) an initial decrease of lgG on the seventh day and than an increase, following an increasing lgM, in 3 patients, c) an increase in all measurements in the mean values of lgA, lgG, lgΜ in seven patients of this group with a fever after the pacemaker implantation. The only difference between the three subgroups of group Β was the significant lower level (p<0,005) of lgG in the pro-implantation measurement in subgroup Bc. The effect of semi-precious alloy and pacemaker on homoral and cellular immunity is discussed.References
