DIACNOSIS OF NODULAR THYROID DISEASE ΒΥ NONASPIRATION FINE NEEDLE SAMPLING
Abstract
During the last one and a half year (April 1988 - September 1989), 184 patients with a palpable thyroid nodule had their lesions studied by two sampling methods: conventional fine needle aspiration and nonaspriration sampling method performed simultaneously. The nonaspiration technique relies on the property of capillary tension in narrow channels (a fine needle). While there was no difference in the amount of cellular material obtained by both techniques, the quality of the material studied was superior in the nonaspiration samples. Dilution of the cellular material by blood was reduced and the diagnostic accuracy was similar to classic needle aspiration.References
