Καρδιομεταβολική υγεία σε ασθενείς με χρόνιες παθήσεις: Ο ρόλος της άσκησης

Στην παρούσα σύνοψη παρουσιάζεται η διαχρονική ερευνητική δραστηριότητα του Εργαστηριακού Τομέα της “Κλινικής Εργοφυσιολογίας και Φυσιολογίας της Άσκησης” που επικεντρώνεται στη μελέτη: α) των προσαρμογών που προκαλεί η εφαρμογή ειδικών προγραμμάτων άσκησης σε ηλικιωμένους καθώς και σε ασθενείς με στεφανιαία νόσο, σακχαρώδη διαβήτη τύπου 2 και οστεοπόρωση, β) των αρνητικών επιπτώσεων που έχει η διακοπή της άσκησης στους κλινικούς πληθυσμούς καθώς και γ) των θετικών επιδράσεων που δυνητικά επιφέρει η επανέναρξη της άσκησης σε ασθενείς με χρόνιες παθήσεις. Διαπιστώθηκε ότι η εφαρμογή ενός προγράμματος άσκησης στο νερό βελτίωσε σημαντικά την ανοχή στην κόπωση και τη μυϊκή δύναμη, προσαρμογές που υποχώρησαν κατά τη διακοπή της άσκησης, ενώ μετά την επανέναρξη της άσκησης διαπιστώθηκε περαιτέρω διατήρηση των προσαρμογών. Επιπλέον, σημαντικές βελτιώσεις στον γλυκαιμικό έλεγχο, στην ανοχή στη γλυκόζη και στη δράση της ινσουλίνης παρατηρήθηκαν μετά από ένα πρόγραμμα συνδυασμού δύναμης και αερόβιας άσκησης σε μετεμμηνοπαυσιακές γυναίκες με ΣΔ τύπου 2. Θετικές προσαρμογές παρατηρήθηκαν επίσης μετά από εφαρμογή ειδικών προγραμμάτων άσκησης, σε συνδυασμό με πρόγραμμα μηχανικής δόνησης, στην οστική πυκνότητα της οσφυϊκής μοίρας μετεμμηνοπαυσιακών γυναικών, ενώ σημαντικές υπήρξαν και οι προσαρμογές στη σύσταση σώματος που παρατηρούνταν κάθε χρόνο, παρά την πρόσκαιρη απώλεια στη διάρκεια των καλοκαιρινών διακοπών, σε γυναίκες τρίτης ηλικίας. Συμπερασματικά, η εφαρμογή προγραμμάτων συνδυασμού δύναμης και αερόβιας άσκησης σε ασθενείς με χρόνιες παθήσεις βελτιώνει θεαματικά τις φυσιολογικές παραμέτρους, ενώ η διακοπή της άσκησης για διάστημα μερικών εβδομάδων οδηγεί σε σημαντική απώλεια προσαρμογών και θα πρέπει να περιορίζεται και να αποφεύγεται.
