Abstract

The controversial aspects in treatment of hydatid disease of the liver, concerns the effectiveness of the medical treatment, the scolicidal activity and toxicity of the intraoperative solutions and the option of the procedure. Fifteen patients were treated in our Clinical from 1980 ro 1989, with 17 cysts. Forteen were operated and the latter case were treated with mebendazole. There were carried out 5 omentoplasties, 7 cystectomies with drainage, 3 capitonnage and 2 pericystectomies. As scolicidal solution were used NaCl 30%. There were no death, nor complication due to use of solution of Nacl. Ιn one case there was billiaty fistula, wich treated after period of 6 months. We conclude: The most controversial theme is the medical treatment. There is the danger of sclerosing cholangitis due to scolicidal solutions. The use of formalin has been abandoned. The option of the procedure depends on the location and of the situation of the cyst. The radical operations should be carrier out in organised Centers.
