AUTOCHTHONUS MALARIA ΙΝ EVROS - GREECE DURING ΤΗΕ LAST TWO YEARS
Abstract
We report 3 cases of malaria in the province of Evros - Greece in three men who were admitted, the first in April 1994, the second in July 1994 and the third in May 1995, to our Clinic with fever. Nobody had traveled outside Greece and nobody visited in the last two years an international airport. These patients also did not have a history of blood transfusions or intravenous drug abuse. The first case was an infection with P. malaria in a 65 year old man with a 30 days history of intermittent fever. The treatment with chloroquine resulted in the rapid clearance of fever and parasitaemia. The second case was an infection with P. falciparum in a 75 year old man with a 10 days history of irregular fever. The treatment with mefloquin resulted in the clearance of fever and parasitaemia in 96 hours. The third case was an infection with P. vivax in a 30 year old man with a 4 days history of irregular fever. The treatment with chloroquin resulted in the rapid clearance of fever and parasitaemia.References
