PAPILLARY CARCINOMA OF ΤΗΕ THYROID: USEFUL ΡARAMETERS AND THERAPY
Abstract
In an attempt to reestimate the biological behaviour and the natural history οf papillary thyroid carcinoma as well as to review the prognostic factors and the modalities οf treatment in the last 12 years (1981-92), we studied and analysed: sex, age, the frequency and staging and the type of surgical treatment in n=39 patients. We conclude that there is an increasing number of new carcinomas in the last six years, mainly in the 4th and 5th decade of life, most οf them with an extrathyroid extension. Total or near total thyreoidectomy are the operations of choice.
