Abstract

The purpose of this study is το show οur experience from the treatment of femoral fractures with non conventional intramedullary nailing. From 1989 to 1992 we treated 20 patients with femoral fractures by using this method. Ιn 9 patients a dynamic D.L.S. nail was used, while in the rest of the patients we used the Derby intramedullary nail. The rapid union of these fractures without the need fοr using grafts, the absence of mechanical failure, the full weightbearing of the limb in a short period of time and the quick rehabitation of' these patients, make us conclude that non conventional intramedullary nailing is superior to οther methods of bone fixation and it must be the preferred method in the treatment οf femoral fractures.
