Abstract

It is well recognized that malignant melanomas commonly develop on preexisting melanotic lesions. The clinical and histopathological features of these prodromic lesions are reported in relation to these features, ascribed tο early malignant melanoma. Adequate evidence exists that "malignancy owes properties, aquired step by step during a long evolutionary process. This paper mainly focuses on the transition from the stage of melanocytic dysplasia to the horizontal growth stage of the early superficially spreading melanoma.
