Abstract

Fetal response to stimulation after intravenous infusion of glucose solution during labour was studied in 50 pregnant women aged between 18 and 40 (38-42 weeks of gestation). The investigation of the fetal reaction was carried out with internal heart monitoring and the assessment of the umbilical artery pH and the Apgar scores. Conversely the negative response to the reaction was associated, to a great extent, with suspicious and abnormal values of the above parameters. The obstetric intervention rate with use of either Cesarean section or Vacuum extraction in the group of those pregnant women with a negative response to stimulation was high.
