FREE INTRAPERITONEAL RUPTURE OF Α PANCREATIC PSEUDOCYSTE
Abstract
Rupture into the free intraperitoneal cavity is an extremely rare and hazardous complication of pancreatic pseudocysts, leading to shock and peritonitis.
Prompt antίcipatiom of shock and external drainage of the cystic and peritoneal cavities is of prime importance in saving these patients. The reported mortality rare exceeds 50 precent.
If the patient survives, pancreatic fistulas, recurτence of the cyst and secondary diabetes mellίtus are expected complications.
We refer to a 50 year old, woman, who survived after the rupture of a huge pancreatic pseudocyst into the free peritoneal cavity and developed secondary diabetes mellitus.
