The effect of life skill program on volleyball service skill learning and perception and satisfaction from the program of 9-11 years old pupils
Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a Life Skill program on volleyball service skill learning, of 44 young female students 9-11 years old (Μ = 10,14, SD = .765). The sample was randomly assigned into two groups. The life skills experimental group (LSG, n= 23) and the control group (CG, n= 21). All participants followed a six-week practice program (twice per week, 45΄ per unit) aiming the overhead service skill learning. For the participants of LSG the program was combined with the components of goal setting, problem solving and positive thinking. The control group received traditional feedback, provided by the instructor. All participants were evaluated in three measurement sessions: a pre-test, a post-test and retention test (one week without practice after the post-test). Moreover, the evaluation of service involved five trials of the skill, which were recorded by digital camera and evaluated in five main elements. The results of the study support the effectiveness of the life skills program that integrated volleyball service skill learning and life skills training. The participants of the LSG improved service skill technique as well as their performance. Furthermore, the results showed a positive reception of the program by the students who they commented that they enjoyed their participation and learned interesting and useful things for their life in general, transferable to other aspects in their life, besides sports.References
