Self-evaluation of effectiveness in developmental age’s volleyball coaches
Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of volleyball coaches and to check the possible effect of age, sex and experience. The participants were 131 volleyball coaches, aged 18-51 years old, who trained young and junior athletes. For coaches’ attitudes evaluation for their coaching effectiveness, the Self-Evaluation of Teacher Effectiveness in Physical Education questionnaire (SETEQ-PE), of Kyrgiridis, Derri, Emmanouilidou, Chlapoutaki and Kioumourtzoglou (2014) was used. The questionnaire consisted of 25 items that evaluate six domains of training: Application of the training content, Training implementation, Learning environment, Teaching strategies, Athlete and coach assessment, and Use of technology. The analysis show that the most coaches believe that they are very good in the Application of the training content, in the Training implementation, in the Learning environment, but there were not in Athlete and coach assessment and in Use of technology. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) show that women believed that they were better than men coaches in Application of the training content, Training implementation, and Learning environment. Coaches of 36-41 years old were better than others, in all of factors except for Athlete and coach assessment. Regarding the coaching experience, coaches with 6-9 years’ experience, were better in all factors except for Athlete and coach assessment. These results could give useful elements for coaches, but also for the sport sectors in case to plan the future education of coaches.References
