Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the technical and tactical data of the girls U19 teams that participated in the European Championship 2020. The sample consisted of all the matches played by the teams that participated in the quarterfinals (two groups), semi-finals (ranking matches) and final phase. The elements evaluated were those of Complex I, specifically those of passing and attacking. These technical elements were recorded through observation and recording of each event in a protocol structured with a separate scale for each variable. The Chi-square analysis conducted (qualitative frequency data) using the SPSS program showed significant effects between the type of jump pass with the choice of strong attack, the non-jump pass with the choice of strong attack and the fingertip push attack, the use of the underhand pass – forearm pass with the choice of a push attack, and finally the one-handed pass with the choice of strong attack. Additionally, a significant effect was observed when the pass was directed to zone 1, with zones 6, 8, and 9 being chosen more for the attack; when the pass was directed to zone 2, the attacks ended in zones 1, 4, 5, 6, and 7; when the pass was directed to zone 3, the attack choices were zones 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9; when the pass was directed to zone 4, the attack choices were zones 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9; and finally, when zone 6 was chosen for the attack, the attacks were directed to zones 6, 8, and 9. The above results could be used by coaches as elements of technique that their players should practice to improve their combination of these sequential skills (passing and attacking) of Complex I. Also, the results could be used as evidence of effective individual-team tactics due to the high correlation of the above-mentioned sequential skills in competitive episodes.
